Applications for the District 1 Cathy Horne Scholarship will now be separate from the CATA Scholarship Common Application. The application deadline is December 6, 2024.

Applicants must have at least one full semester remaining in their athletic training education for scholarship consideration.

Applications for the CATA Scholarships are accepted annually from March 1st to April 1st.
The Connecticut Athletic Trainers' Association awards three scholarships to students
pursuing an entry level degree in athletic training:
CATA Kathy Pirog Professional Program Scholarship
Carl Krein CATA Scholarship
CATA Penny F. Dunker-Polek Scholarship
The CATA offers these scholarships to athletic trainers who are enrolled full-time in a
Connecticut college or university. There are two additional sponsored scholarships.
CATA Select Physical Therapy Scholarship (2)
Mr. & Mrs. Paul A. Sirop Scholarship
Award recipients are chosen by the CATA Executive Council in conjunction with the CATA Research and Education Committee.
Note: The CATA Penny F. Dunker-Polek Scholarship is a scholarship through the NATA Foundation, and has a separate application form.

Eligibility Requirements for District 1 Cathy Horne Scholarship ($2,500), CATA Kathy Pirog Professional Program Scholarship ($1,000), Carl Krein CATA Scholarship ($1,000), CATA Select Physical Therapy Scholarship ($500), and Mr. & Mrs. Paul A. Sirop Scholarship ($500):

Application must be a full-time student enrolled in an accredited Athletic Training Education Program in Connecticut.

Applicant must be a student member of NATA and CATA. Out of state students enrolled in an Athletic Training program in Connecticut should change their permanent address to their Connecticut mailing address on the NATA website. This makes the student a member of the CATA and therefore eligible for the scholarships.

Applicant must have an NPI number.

Applicant must distinguish oneself academically, and as a participant in their athletic training program.

Applicants must have at least one full semester remaining in their athletic training education.

Applicant must confirm their intent to pursue the athletic training profession as their primary means of livelihood.
Nomination Instructions
Each certified athletic trainer may submit no more than one nomination for an scholarship. The following items must be submitted:

The deadline for filing the District 1 Cathy Horne Scholarship is December 6, 2024.

The deadline for filing the CATA Common Application is April 1, 2025.

CATA Penny F. Dunker-Polek Scholarship Application
Criteria:

Applicant must be a full-time student enrolled in an accredited Athletic Training Program in Connecticut.

Applicant must be a student member of NATA and CATA. Out of state students enrolled in an Athletic Training Program in Connecticut should change their permanent address to their Connecticut mailing address on the NATA website. This makes the student a member of the CATA and therefore eligible for the scholarship.

Applicant must have one additional academic year prior.

Applicant must demonstrate an "above and beyond" attitude both as an athletic training student in the field and academically as well as other activities in which he or she may be involved.

Applicant must have a demonstrated commitment to the profession.

Applicant must be in good standing academically in accordance with the requirements of his/her Athletic Training Education Program. There is no other minimum GPA requirement for this scholarship.

Applicant must confirm his/her intent to pursue the athletic training profession as his/her primary means of livelihood.

The candidate must be nominated by a licensed athletic trainer in Connecticut. The nominating athletic trainer may not submit more than one nomination for this award. The following items must be submitted:

A letter of recommendation from a licensed athletic trainer, on business letterhead.
